E. Gail Chandler is an Appalachian, a Vietnam veteran, and was the first female deputy warden in Kentucky Corrections. Her poems and stories have appeared in regional publications, several anthologies, Passager and Verse Wisconsin, whose editors nominated her for a Best of the Net Award. She received the 2008 Gabehart prize for poetry and in 2010, a Platner award from Appalachian Heritage. Finishing Line has published two of her poetry chapbooks: Where the Red Road Meets the Sky, 2003 and He Read to Us, 2016.
